From 22 September to 7 October 2024, two representatives of UiTM Cawangan Pulau Pinang, PhD student Nurfarwizah Adzuan Hafiz and Assoc. Prof. Ir Dr Noor Fitrah Abu Bakar of the School of Chemical Engineering, took part in a research program at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, England. The research uses neutron and muon technology to analyze material structure, with a focus on applications of nanotechnology in sustainable materials. The project is also supervised by Ir. Ts. Mohamed Syazwan Osman.
The program involved experiments using the Imaging and Tomography (IMAT) instrument to monitor the effect of iron nanoparticles on the germination of vegetable seeds, the first study of its kind in the world. Participants also attended expert mentoring and knowledge-sharing sessions that strengthened their skills in advanced research.
This initiative has a significant impact on UiTM’s international reputation and opens opportunities for high-impact journal publications, in line with the university’s aspiration to be a leading research institution.
