From the former NANOCORE website (last updated 23 September 2024). The project content below is as described by EMZI on the former NANOCORE website. Background Brain health refers to a person’s ability to remember, concentrate, learn and maintain a clear and active mind to function well in daily life. It involves cognitive strengths and other higher-level mental processes such as problem solving, decision making, imagination, planning, self-management and information processing. Individuals aged 60 and above are expected to increase in the coming years: the poster cites 3.8 million individuals aged 60 and above in Malaysia in the first quarter of 2023. Although many older adults maintain excellent health, many are at risk of physiological and neurological changes in the brain and body. Ingredients Plukenetia volubilis (Sacha Inchi), oil-based: omega-3, described as beneficial for brain health and cognitive function. Andrographis paniculata (Hempedu Bumi), water-based: described as having cognitive-enhancing effects, promoting focus and mental alertness, and supporting neurotransmitter function. Moringa oleifera (Kelor/Merunggai), water-based: antioxidants that protect brain cells from oxidative stress; vitamins E and C that support cognitive function. Method Extraction of Moringa and Andrographis by maceration (60 °C, 1 h; water-based). Oil-in-water emulsion using whey protein (oil-based). Encapsulation by spray drying (140 °C; Arabic gum carrier loading 25 %). Co-encapsulation of the oil-based and water-based parts into Teh Tarik Mahmudi. Why encapsulation? It offers a practical way to combine water and oil extracts in a single system. It enhances stability, solubility and bioavailability. It protects volatile components from degradation and prolongs shelf life. The resulting powder is easier to handle, transport and dose. Improving cognitive function and brain health. Improving the immune system. Promoting better concentration and focus. Target groups named on the poster: workers, older adults and students. Recognition The poster carries the MIIEX’24 gold badge (12 June 2024) and the i-SIIDEC logo. See Double gold at MIIEX’24 and Double gold at i-SIIDEC 2024. Commercialisation At the time of the poster, a trial pack (Pakej Percubaan) was shown on the EMZI Marketplace at RM30 (emzi.com.my/product/teh-tarik-mahmudi/). The price may have changed since.
